Juxtapose Bear Chair

Speaking of growing so fast, it's interesting to see Madeline in similar poses over the weeks to appreciate the scale. For example, the first picture was taken in her soothing center (bear chair) when she was 5 days old. The second one was when she was 2 1/2 weeks. The last one was just taken yesterday at almost 10 weeks. She's filling it out so much more now!

Personality

Madleine's growing so fast, she's starting to grow out of so many lovely clothes that she hasn't had a chance to wear yet. We're getting a little more comfortable with dressing her in other things besides easy on/off onesies. This little number is designed for 3-6 months, and even though she's not even 10 weeks yet, she's stretching it in the middle and might not fit for much longer. SO, I had to get a picture while I could. The first one is cute, and as you can see she's exhibiting a little of her personality in the second one. That face is *exactly* the same face Dave makes when we go shopping and I make him try on anything.

Crib Transition

Madeline's big enough now that she's almost outgrown her pack and play's bassinet, which tops out at 15lbs. So, we've been getting her used to spending time in her crib. We started first with naps, and the last 2 nights she's slept in it all night and done very well. Let me clarify: She hasn't slept all night... she still gets up twice, but that's ok! Even though you're not supposed to have stuffed animals or blankets near them in their cribs, I put this bear in with her for a bit to help the transition. She can't squirm her way over to do any harm yet. It's supposed to comfort them to have something that smells like mom, (and that's partly what this bear is designed to help do) so I thought it was very sweet when Madeline turned her head this way as she was falling asleep in this picture.

Bath Hood

After Madeline takes a bath, she bundles up in this cute little hooded robe with bear ears. It keeps her nice and warm before her massage and storytime (thanks grandma).

Company and "Po-hawk"

Katharine and Kirby came down from Austin today to see Madeline and catch up. We had all kinds of fun, and Madeline continues to enjoy socializing with her new friends.

Also, as you can see, Madeline's got lots of long hair, and it also likes to stick up in the back. It's like a faux-hawk, but because it's mostly in the back of her head, Dave's dubbed it the "po-hawk" (as in "posterior mohawk")

First Magnolia

Our favorite place to eat breakfast is Magnolia Pancake Haus. It's also special because we had breakfast there the morning of my check-up which led to me getting admitted and induced, then Madeline was born the next day. Anyway, we got to come back with her this weekend on her 9-week birthday. As you can see, she's a little drowsy in this photo... she'd just been fed at home and is ready to go down for a morning nap. We like to get to Magnolia early (before 8 am) to avoid long waits, so we were very lucky Saturday morning's events lined up to make this trip possible. Yum!

Smiley Baby

Can never have too many pictures of this baby smiling. This moment was especially funny to me because I just looked over and she was smiling like that.

At Bin

One of our favorite restaurants is Bin 555, and luckily it's right around the corner. We thought it would be the perfect place to try out our first trip to a restaurant with Madeline (day before her 7 week birthday) so we could make a quick escape home if trouble arose. Great news is the croquettes are back on the menu AND Madeline behaved very well.

Official Numbers

We had Madeline's 8-week check-up on Tuesday and got some official measurements. We knew she was growing - she's already blown past the newborn diapers and the stage 1 diapers and her 0-3 month clothes were getting very snug. Now we know by how much. She's 14.2 lbs and 23.62 inches long. That puts her in about the 95th percentile. We were also proud to see she's blowing past all of her developmental milestones, as well as a few others that aren't expected until she's 4 months, including bearing weight on her legs. The doctor remarked she's going to be athletic (you think?). She also commented on Madeline's good temper, and we're proud to say she really did an amazing job. She took it all in stride, and even though the shots were brutal - maybe moreso for us!! - she had a great check-up.

Playmat throw-down at 8 weeks old

It's so much fun to watch as Madeline learns more about the world around her. One day, lying on the playmat (thanks, Aunt Mandy!) is a meaningless experience; the next day, her zeal for taking on the elephant and giraffe toys can only be described with this video:

BIG smile today!!

Seriously, how cute is this? I mean, really.

She might be so happy after going 6 hours between feedings last night (9pm - 3am!!) letting Mommy sleep a whole 4 hours uninterrupted. YAY!! We're all having a great day! :)

Bumbo Chair

Madeline tried out her little Bumbo chair for the first time this week. She wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but I think she likes being able to sit up on her own for a while... Thanks, ZMA and ZPA!! (Mr. and Mrs. Zurcher)!! By the way, her shirt says "Hug Me" Aaw.

Pensive

One of Madeline's favorite activities is to look out the window and study the lights and shapes that she sees. She sits in her little pink bouncy seat and enjoys some quiet time before she goes into a nap. I caught these earlier this week (6.4 wks). She's just absolutely lovely.

Family Portrait 6.1 weeks

Last weekend we had our friends the Chungs over for some yummy BBQ and pool time. Even though it's 100+ we ducked outside with Madeline long enough to get a nice family picture... As you can see, Madeline is just so expressive. Lots going on in that little head!

Bath Time

Ever since she was minutes old, Madleine has always loved to get her hair washed, and while Grandma was here we got to some bathtime and get these great shots. (5 weeks, 4 days)

Look at that giant smile!

Notice those curls that happen when her hair is wet...

All bundled up and warm in a little bear robe with hood.

Grandma Visit

Grandma Torres came to visit 2 weeks ago... here are the 3 ladies together. Madeline folded her hands nicely in her pose.

We also got a nice picture of Dave and Rachel with Madeline... look how she looks up at him with her hands all folded up. It's the most adorable thing ever.
